We would like to acknowledge the cooperation ot the Mid Wales Office of the Welsh Assembly Government in drawing up Financial Estimates for the first five years of the new Exhibition. In particular, we are most grateful to Kathrine Johnson for her work.

The assistance of a Humanities Adviser during her summer vacation ensured the completion of the Narrative. We are grateful for her advice.

Many useful meetings were held. Visit Wales gave us useful advice and suggestions on future cooperation. In December, the Minister for Heritage and Culture, Rhodri Glyn Thomas, came to Machynlleth to discuss our plans. A few days later, the Committee had preliminary discussions with officials of the Heritage Lottery Fund .

On the same day, the Centre’s delegation visited the offices of INDUS. This is the company which produced the successful “Coal House” series. We received useful advice on public relations from the Chairman, Paul Islwyn Thomas. (Gallery for details)

The Countryside Council for Wales already contributes to the exhibition in Parliament House. CCW’s Chief Executive agreed to a long term partnership with the Centre as Machynlleth lies on the Glyn Dŵr trail. Discussions were held re. short and longer term links between the two organizations.
2008: Website and Events

Nigel Thomas set about revamping and upgrading our website making it more interactive and attractive.

A match funding grant of almost £6,000 was received from Powys County Council. This will assist in the employment of Receptionists at the Visitor Centre so that it can remain open for an extended period. It should also develop our technology communications.

The Pantyfedwen Trust made a grant of £1000 to the Centre which facilitated painting and decorating in the Institute.

Cylch Cinio Aberystwyth gave the Centre £300 in the summer of 2008 to assist the campaign to establish a National Owain Glyn Dŵr Centre.

Alun Wyn Jones, the Ospreys and Wales lock forward, attended a function at Machynlleth Rugby Club on July 5. This  is to support our campaign and will take the form of a Question and Answer Session and an Auction. We are grateful to Alun Wyn and his mother for their cooperation.

In April our benefactor from Sussex came to the Centre and he was taken to the site of Glyn Dŵr’s famous victory on Hyddgen mountain in 1401. He was thanked for his support for the campaign by the mayor, Bob Dunn and Town Clerk, John Parsons.

In September 2008, a Festival was held in Machynlleth to commemorate the launching of Glyn Dŵr’s revolt on September 16 1400. Visits were be arranged to Pennal Church to see the “Princes Garden” and  Aneurin Jones’s picture of the 1406 Assembly. School visits, a Talwrn [poetry competition] and a bilingual Drama were organised by the Gwylltiaid.  BACK
